Leadership Symposium

The Goal:

RNM’s Leadership Symposium offers job training for teens and adults where the focus is on basic communication and life skills, to improve employment opportunities.

How It's Done:

RNM uses a curriculum that was professionally developed to teach basic communication and job interviewing skills to teens. We expanded the training to include characteristics of good leadership at any stage of life and particularly focus on job related skills that can be immediately applied. RNM is able to easily adapt the training for adults and mixed crowds because the concepts and learnable ‘take away’ skills are the same. We also leverage relationships with our sister organization, New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC), to facilitate interaction and practice interviews with job providers.

The Leadership Symposium & Job Skills Training can be delivered on a one time basis or an ongoing, weekly basis. The preferred delivery method, however, is to maximize outcomes in a 10-week program that is conducted in weekly one-hour sessions.

The Success:

RNM has been providing its Leadership Symposium & Job Skills training at Joy Junction, a homeless shelter in the greater Albuquerque area, over the past two years. It has trained over 200 residents ranging in age from 15 to 70 years old.

We have seen improvement at all ages, some more significantly than others. While that is to be expected, it is amazing to see the transformation in some of the recipients, like the one featured in this short video:

Because of the program’s success, RNM has been contacted by churches, other nonprofit groups and government agencies that fill immediate food/clothing/shelter needs of homeless and other at risk populations, requesting RNM’s assistance.
